Disciples of the Holy Child
Amid the constant warring against the family unit He sanctified the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ is always a welcome respite.
A lull in demonic proceedings, as it were, it allows us to bask momentarily in the Triumph long secured by the Infant King over the prince of this world: namely, the defeat of satanic self-interest, corruption, filth and lies by the selfless love, goodness, innocence and Absolute Truth wrapped in swaddling.
How this little breather rejuvenates!
What could be more revitalising than the sure knowledge that despite their current Herodian predominance the neo-Marxists will not prevail.
All the international power they currently command (despite increasing pushback by sovereign states; now, providentially, to include America!) cannot destroy God's familial master plan blessed and elevated in Bethlehem.
Ultimately, their hubris and hi-tech plans to reset the family and rewire humanity itself according to the designs of Antichrist will fizzle out, just like Herod's pursuit of Christ and the Holy Family before them.
That said, the slaughter of the Holy Innocents also reminds us of the living hell that those seeking Herodian power and control ever unleash on the rest of us to achieve their hellish ends.
So, even as we continue to pray and work in order to merit our share in the heavenly spoils of the Eternal Victory that is already ours, we should not expect a rapid resolution to the heightening persecution of Christians in particular and humanity in general (both in and ex utero).
After all, three decades after Herod Archelaus set the murderous ball rolling the hunt for Jesus still raged under Herod Antipas. You better leave town, the Pharisees warned Our Lord, "because Herod wants to kill you"! [Lk 3:31].
From the manger to the Cross to this very day, the hounding and hatred of Truth continues.
It will never stop.
But nor will disciples of the Holy Child!
May all that the Nativity demands in the service of love, life, family and the Faith serve to refresh and strengthen our resolve!
